Subtracting Fractions

Jimmie Said:

what do you do when subtracting fractions if there isnt a number to Borrow?

We Answered:

with 11/13 - 2/13, you already have a common denominator, just subtract the tops.

11/13 - 2/13 = (11-2)/13 = 9/13

If by 1 and 11/13 you mean the mixed number of 1 + 11/13, then 1 + 11/13 - 1 = 11/13 (the ones cancel).

If you're having trouble with fractions, know that it's only because the way that they're taught is so stupid.
