How do I convert word problems with fractions and decimals into ratios? We Answered:
lets say you have the fraction 4/9. the ratio would then be 4:9. The numerator comes first and the denominator comes second. Lets say you have the decimal .5. This means it is 50% or 1/2. Since you know its 1/2, you can make the ratio 1:2. Similar lets say you have .4. This means its 40% or 4/10 or 2/5. That becomes 2:5.Jon Said:
Prepare at least four problems on fractions that will be useful in your career/job. Present these problems to?We Answered:
Fractions are involved in most of these problems, such as in first one: you have to convert sq. feet to sq. yards, a sq ft being 1/9th times as small as a sq yd.You you divide total feet by the "faction", 9/1 to convert to yards.
And in second problem below, a dollar 20 cents is really 120/100th of a dollar, ect.
1. Cost of carpeting at $12/yard for an office that is 20ft x 12 feet?
2. Cost of a trip across the country, 1,495 miles, if gasoline costs 2.86 average, and your car gets about 23 mpg?
3. What the tip on a meal will be if you pay 15 percent tip, and the meal came to $18.69?
4. What will your pay be next year, if you earn $24,600 per year now, and you get a 3% pay increase. (3 percent is the fraction 3/100)
Normally, it's easier to turn factions into decimals for easier computation.
There could be thousands of other "math" problems, necessary to live intelligently in the modern world. Especially mortgage interest costs, and amount of simple interest you may have to pay on other loans.
Happy mathing to you.fractions problems?
We Answered:
5/8 = 0.6253/4 = 0.75
9/16 = 0.5625
7/8 = 0.875
Therefore the one with a diameter of 9/16 inches is the smallest

Alternatively
Find a common denominator for all the fractions:
5/8, 3/4, 9/16, 7/8
10, 12, 9, 14
----------------
16
The first is got by 16/8 X 5 = 10
The second by 16/4 X 3 = 12
The third by 16/16 X 9 = 9
The fourth by 16/8 X 7 = 14
Therefore the one with a diameter of 9/16 inches is the smallest

Help on 1 problem changing decimal to fractions & 4 problems finding the indicated root?We Answered:
23) 125125125 / 100000011) ±6
12) ±12
14) ±9
16) ±3y³
Note that ± is technically correct answer, as squaring a negative number produces a positive. However, you may only be looking for only the positive root. In that case, (14) is negative, and the rest are positive.
