Calculus Single Variable

Shannon Said:

What is the difference between Single Variable Calculus book vs. a just Calculus book?

We Answered:

"Single variable" means that it just covers calculus of a single variable. Typically, that covers about the first two semesters of a calculus sequence.

A standard college Calculus text covers both single-variable and multivariable calculus. So the single-variable book probably covers about half the material of a standard text.

Whether that meets your needs .... it all depends. If you're looking for a book for a class, ask your professor. If you're looking for it for self-study, it would probably be fine to start with the single-variable book.

Norma Said:

Can I use Calculus of a Single Variable 7th edition instead of 8th?

We Answered:

Well I asked my teacher the same question, and I was told that the questions are not the same. If you're buying it for a class and the class demands the 8th edition, buying the 7th edition would be a bad idea. You'd have to look into both books to see which questions are the same in order to keep up with the work that I assume you will be assigned. I'm sorry, you might have to spend the money. I do too, unfortunately :(

Edna Said:

Single variable calculus, how are third and higher derivatives represented in a graph?

We Answered:

it depends on your initial equation. like if it was a quadratic equation third would be a constant line and anything else higher is 0.

I'm sorry the question is sort of vague do you mean that first derivative is the slope of the graph and the second is the concavity and the thirdis about the jerks of the original graph?
