Calculus For Dummies

James Said:

Is the best way to learn calculus through self study through a traditional book or an applied calculus book?

We Answered:

I taught myself calculus in highschool and in one year scored a 5 on the AP test. I would avoid using any sort of DVD's unless you are stuck in the book without any other help. Second, I would definitely use a traditional book. If you want to learn a little slower, but with a better understanding I would search for a college level Calculus book. If you do not feel comfortable with that then find an AP level highschool calculus book. Calculus for Dummies is not worth the money you paid for it. It will give you a "bare bones" understanding of calculus which will not be enough if you plan on using calculus in the future for a degree or in a job environment.

Lisa Said:

Would you recommend the Pre-calculus for Dummies book?

We Answered:

No, do not buy it. Those books are worthless, I am not even joking.

They do not prepare for the actual course. I would choose a textbook over it.

Gordon Said:

Anybody know where I can get Pre-Calculus for Dummies for free....Like an Ebook?

We Answered:

Hey, it is necessarily not an ebook but you will fall in love with the website. It is Khanacademy.org. Check it out, it tackles all the topics in pre calc and also is free, cant beat that right?

Tracey Said:

What is a good book to refresh my Calculus skills?

We Answered:

Here is a good website that I used to study for Calculus when I had a break of 3 years myself. It really helps alot, it contains all topics from all Calculus to linear algebra and differential equations.

Just click on which class and it will list ALL topics with examples :)

Phyllis Said:

Will there ever be a Calculus 3 for Dummies edition?

We Answered:

Most of calculus 3 (multivariable calculus) seems to be included in the book Calculus 2 for Dummies.

Update:

To the person who answered AFTER I did:

If you answered after I did, did you not read my answer? There IS a series of calc for dummies. I mentioned it, and explained where the calc 3 content is in the series. WTF?

Bessie Said:

Is calculus for dummies a good book, help please!?

We Answered:

Actually, any book is a good book as long as you can understand its presentation and the sample problems, as well.

Hope this helps.

Scott Said:

Can you pass actuary exams with calculus for dummies or statistics for dummies?

We Answered:

I'd second the other person's answer - the dummies books definitely aren't enough. Take classes and/or use the study materials provided on the respective society's website online.
