Algebra 2 Problems

Julia Said:

Could someone please help me with these 2 Algebra Problems?

We Answered:

For the first one, convert into a quadratic by substituting y = 1/x.

9 + 3y - 2y^2 = 0
0 = 2y^2 - 3y - 9
0 = (2y + 3)(y - 3)
y = -3/2 or 3

x = -2/3 or 1/3

For the second one, using the quadratic equation I get:
x = (3 ± i*sqrt(5))/2

Harvey Said:

How do I solve 2<10-4d<6 ? I'm having algebra problems and can't figure this out?

We Answered:

2<10-4d<6
2-10<10-4d-10<6-10
-8<-4d<-4
-8/(-4)>-4d/(-4)>-4/(-4) 'when dividing with negative, you have to change the direction of the signs
2>d>1
1<d<2

Jessie Said:

can someone help me solve these 2 algebra problems?

We Answered:

Let x be the number of pints.

1.
5 * 90 = (5 + x)38
450 = 190 + 38x
260 = 38x
x = 260 / 38
= 6.84 pt.

2.
4 * 80 = (4 + x)34
320 = 136 + 34x
34x = 184
x = 184 / 34
= 5.41 pt.

can someone show me the steps to these 2 algebra problems?

Let your length equal x. Because your width is 3 less than the length, let the width equal (x-3). Put what you know into an equation.

x + x - 3 = 62 Then Simplify by combining like terms.
2x - 3 = 62
2x = 65
x = 32.5

Because x = 32.5, your length is 32.5. Because your width is 3 less than the length, subtract 3 from 32.5.

Answer: The length is 32.5 and the width is 29.5.

I'm not sure if this is correct, but it seems right.

42.
Let the length equal x. Because the width is 18 less than 2x the length, make the width (2x-18). Put what you know into an equation.

x + 2x - 18 = 36
3x - 18 = 36
3x = 54
x = 18

Because x =18, the length is 18.

Now for the width, input 18 into 2x-18.
2(18)-18
36-18
18

Answer: Both the length and the width is equal to 18, so you can conclude that the rectangle is a perfect square.

Can any one help with these 2 algebra problems?

We Answered:

the first question is #1 because any power of an even number would be another even number, and the second question is #3 because any integer subracted from another integer will equal an integer.
